Balaruc-Le-Vieux

Presentation

At the end of the Thau Lagoon, right next to the Gardiole Massif, Balaruc Le Vieux dominates and contemplates with its "Truc" (summit in Occitan), the glimmers of the Thau Lagoon.

The first traces of occupation of the place date back to the Iron Age, the hill of Balaruc-le-Vieux was occupied by an oppidum whose location, in the hollow of a natural harbour on the Etang de Thau, suggests a commercial vocation.

The old village, nestled in the heart of its restored ramparts, preserves, in the heart of its narrow and winding streets, some beautiful memories of the past: Louis XIII gates, some remains of the medieval castle, a superb church of Romanesque and Gothic tradition.

Its typical shape, with its circular geometry specific to many Languedoc villages, built around the year 1000, earned it the name of Circulade
